Why we built SkillZilla
We're Holly and Daniel O'Brien. Between us we've worked at Microsoft, Twitch, YouTube, Warner Bros., Samsung, and LG. We did everything we were told to do. We learned the skills nobody taught us, worked hard, and climbed the corporate ladder.
Then we faced three layoffs in three years. Holly got hit twice.
That was the wake-up call. The system we trusted wasn't built to protect us, and it definitely wasn't built to prepare the next generation for it.
When we started SkillZilla in 2023, we had six sons between 13 and 19. We looked at them and knew we couldn't send them into the same job market that just chewed us up, unprepared. Workforce development was our world. Helping young people was our purpose. So we put the two together.
SkillZilla is what we wish we'd had. A place where you find out what you're naturally good at, build a resume that proves it, and connect with real work, so you can start building the life and the dreams you actually want.
